Star Trek Horizon
The USS Horizon is a Nova class Federation starship. The Horizon is the first Nova class to be built since their production was put on hold during the Dominion War to allow more combat effective ships be produced. After the War ended many Federation resources were allocated to repairing the damage to its worlds.
The Nova class is a reliable vessel however one of it’s biggest problems was it’s lackluster speed as it was only capable of warp eight although aside from this it performed exemplarily. The Horizon has been built as a testbed for a Nova class with some minor readjustments, firstly it has a new prototype engine installed a LF-62 capable or warp 9.4 theoretically although this speed has not been achieved on the Horizon yet warp 9 has been achieved which is a drastic increase in speed over the previous Nova class engine. The greatest advantage to the LF-62 is that it has the most redundancies and durability seen in any federation engine to date. The production team on the Horizon considered placing more established and faster engines in however they felt that the more redundant engine might have advantages considering the types of unusual phenomenon the vessels might encounter. In the end it was decided a test bed vessel would try the new engine in the field so to speak before production on the class begins again proper.
The other greatest change has been the addition of bio-neural circuitry due to it’s bio-neural gel packs most commonly found on the Intrepid and Sovereign classes. These allow for the greater data storage and processing.
Lastly two holodecks were installed onto the vessel for training and recreational use purposes. To make room for some of these changes the vessel has reduced cargo capacity compared to it’s predecessors.
The Horizon is currently due to be assigned to scientific and exploration missions in the Beta Quadrant.
